| Abstract: | Non-metallic inclusions, microscopically small particles of non-metallic matter, are almost inevitable companions of modern industrial metals and alloys. They are formed as a result of the chemical interaction of impurities with metal and alloying additives during the crystallisation process. The chemical composition of carbides, nitrides, oxides, sulfides, phosphides and their combinations includes carbonitrides, complex oxides (aluminosilicates, ferrous silicates, calcium silicate inclusions, siliceous glass, etc.), as well as intermetallics (especially when welding dissimilar metals). |
