О. М. Можейко: наукова, педагогічна і громадська діяльність

Відображено творчий і життєвий шлях відомого вченого, доктора сільськогосподарських наук, професора Харківського національного аграрного університета ім. В. В. Докучаєва О. М. Можейка (1902–1986). За своє довге життя він зробив вагомий внесок у розвиток землеробства, ґрунтознавства, агрохімії, хімічної меліорації та іррігації, створив наукову школу.

Ahistory of creative career and life journey of the famous scientist, Doctor of Science in Agriculture, Professor of V. V. Dokuchaev Kharkiv National Agricultural University O. M. Mozheiko is presented in the article (1902–1986). During his long lifetime he made an essential contribution to arable farming science, ground science, fertilizer science, land clearing science and irrigation science, he created a school of sciences. O. M. Mozheiko was born on 22 February 1902, in Minsk (Belarus) in a family of an office worker. After graduating from the Kharkiv Agricultural Institute in 1927, he pursued a PhD degree at the Ukrainian Research Institute on Agropedology. He did is research under coordination of such eminent scientists as V. G. Vilensky and O. N. Sokolovsky. The scientist is one of the pioneers in the field of chemical reclamation and development of techniques, which improve fertility of the Ukrainian solonetz soils. His theoretical research became the basis of solonetz soil cultivation by chemical meliorants and fertilizers in the Middle Dnieper. The continuous work, launched in 1936 resulted in a doctoral dissertation called "Solonetz soils of southern part of the Middle Dnieper and their cultivated assimilation" defended in 1964. O. M. Mozheiko made an important contribution into the soil irrigation field, which uses artesian, industrial and domestic water. In addition, numerous studies on disposal methods of liquid manure in modern livestock farms have been conducted under his supervision. A lot of attention was paid to current agricultural issues, such as productivity boost of arable land, application of fertilizers, tillage methods and basic weed control. Throughout his career path, the professor O. M. Mozheiko has been closely linking his scientific research with teaching. From 1931 the scientist had been working as an assistant, and from 1937 he had been an Associate Professor in Soil Science. He occupied a dean position at the Faculty of Agronomy and in the correspondence department for 12 years. O. M. Mozheiko had been heading the Agriculture department from 1953 to 1974. During this period, he established a scientific school as well as created a powerful experimental base for versatile and deep research. The professor has been a scientific advisor of three doctoral dissertations and a supervisor of 24 PhD students. He is an author of more than 125 scientific publications, including the textbook "Irrigation mode of field crops"
