Abstract:	This article reviews in short the history, aims, scope and main stages in the studies on the DNA sequence data. The preparation and suitability of materials for further DNA-studies are emphasised. The Appendix represents a model protocol scheme (largely based on the author’s experience with studies on the DNA of small insects) with comments on aims and details of each step.
