Abstract

Differences in the level of politeny of giant chromosomes in salivary glands of Drosophila melanogaster wee investigated in two inbred lines Swedish (Sw),Oregon-R (Or),and reciprocal hybrids F1, SwxOr апd OrxSw. For the experiment, females аt the stage о! 0-hour prepupae were taken. It was shown that line Ог had а lower level о! politeny of chromosomes in comparison with the line Sw. This result correlated with different adaptability of the lines. Intermediate inheritance of the politeny level index of chromosomes was found in hybrids. The adaptive significance of politeny level, which is the characteristic of doze о! genes, is under discussion,
