Квантитативні одиниці сучасної англійської мови

Abstract

Досліджено квантитативні одиниці сучасної англійської мови, ідентифіковано їх статус у мові та мовленні. Виявлено структурні та комбінаторні можливості кількісних одиниць, текстові модифікації нумеральних сполучень в англомовних текстах, розглянуто процес їх десем антизації у фразеологічному контексті, окреслено перспективи подальшого дослідження квантитативних одиниць.

The article investigates systematic and functional properties of modern English quantitative units. It focuses on the status of quantitative words and their inherent functional potential. It analyzes their regularities in language and speech systems, creates the bank of quantitative lexical units models. The paper deals both with structure and combinability of quantitative words; makes in-depth analysis of textual modifications of numeric expressions. It identifies the functional transformation of quantitative words into onims, terms and phraseological units – the special marginal zones of the functional-semantic field of quantity. The analysis of the latest research shows that investigated systematic and functional properties of modern English quantitative units, their inherent functional potential, regularities in language and speech systems, creates the bank of quantitative lexical units models. Numerals come to the forefront for they are used with discrete nouns and as mediators with indiscrete ones. The obtained results are aimed at further understanding of English quantitative words.
